
The Magdeburg spheres were two hollow halves of a copper sphere 35.5cm in diameter. It is made by Otto von Gericke who lived in Magdeburg. Magdeburg spheres demonstrate how the atmosphere exerts Pressure in wards on any surface.

Materials Needed:
- Two Plastic Cups
- Aluminum Foil
- Match
- Blotting Paper
- Water
Step 1. Put a piece of aluminum foil at the bottom of a plastic cup to prevent the plastic from getting scorched.

Step 2. Soak a piece of blotting paper in water.
Step 3. Light a match and drop it on to the foil in the cup.

Step 4. Quickly, put the blotting paper on top of the cup and place the other cup upside down exactly on top of it.
Step 5. Pick up the top cup when the match has gone out.
You can see that the bottom cup should be attached to it because as the match burnt it used up some of the air, giving a partial vacuum.
