Steam Engine Experiment

The steam engine is kind of machine that converts the energy stored in fuel into useful work using steam. The first steam engine was built by a British Engineer Thomas Newcomen in 1721, then was improved through the years.

Today, even you can make an experiment how to create a Steam Engine in simple materials.

SEE FOR YOURSELF

Materials Needed

  • Candle
  • Metal foil food container
  • Long narrow can (cigar tube or likely similar to it)
  • Modelling clay

Start building your steam-propelled boat.

Step 1. Put three candles in a metal foil food container.

Step 2. Find a long narrow can, such as a cigar tube or something similar, with a tight fitting lid.

Step 3. Make a small hole in the lid.

Step 4. Put a spoonful of water in the can and use modelling clay to mount it on the 'boat' as shown, with the hole upper most.

Step 5. Light the candles  and wait for the steam too build up.
