Pacquiao and Marquez IV has been dubbed as
one of the best fights in this era. It may be a great loss to Pacquiao and a
sweet victory for Marquez but one thing is for sure, boxing fans are too eager
to see them both back on the arena for a 5th 12-round bout. Both
wowed the audience during the fight and even shocked them with the outcome as
most people think that it will be a unanimous win for Pacquiao but the Mexican
hero did throw a sudden powerful punch knocking Pacquiao on the floor for
seconds.
And that all happened in the dying seconds of the 6th
round. Now before you shout out for a 5th game, you might want to
check out these interesting facts of the two of the most well-known boxers in
their generation.
1. Did you know that Marquez went up as a heavy as 142 pounds in his pro boxing career? The Mexican boxer needed to buff up during his bout with Floyd Mayweather in September 2009. After that fight he was missing in action on the boxing arena for ten months and eventually dropped to 133 ½ pounds for his WBO lightweight title rematch with Juan Diaz.
2. Did you know that both fighters, Pacquiao and Marquez, have fought same opponents somehow? Both boxers have a round with Marco Antonio Barrera with the two of them winning their fight respectively against Barrera. They also faced Agapito Sanchez with a technical draw result on Pacquiao’s fight and Marquez winning over Sanchez in a 12-round decision.
3. Did you know that a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will join Lennox Lewis-Riddick Bowe in the Nonexistent Fights Hall of Fame? Boxing enthusiasts are all in for a May-Pac fight. But now that Pacquiao had lost to Marquez, Mayweather will have the one-sided financial terms that he wants making it a bit harder for fans to see them both on the ring. It will forever be a dream match.
4. Did you know that Pacquiao’s first KO loss was on the fist of Rustico Torrecampo declaring Torrecampo as the winner via a third round knockout? But that knockout didn’t pave any luck on Torrecampo’s part. Instead it was only the meaningful fight in his career after he committed a crime for murdering a garbage truck driver. He is now reportedly selling noodle soup on the streets of Manila.
5. Did you know that Gerry Penalosa, a two-time division champ, happens to be Pacquiao’s closest friend and sparring partner before? So indeed birds of the same feathers flock together. These two were rumored to have a very intense sparring session that they took turns in knocking each other down.
6. Did you know that Marquez turned down Pacquiao and his team’s offer for a rematch after the draw match? Instead Marquez went to fight Chris John from Indonesia which is just one-fourth (in financial terms) of what was offered by Pacquiao.
7. Did you know that Pacquiao has an 8-inch wrist which is as big as Joe Luiz’ and Mike Tyson’s? Pacquiao’s success in moving up in weight is all due to his fist that is as big as those two fighters that are fighting in the heavyweight division. Marquez on the other hand has 6.5 inch wrist but still that didn’t stop him from knocking down Pacman.
8. Did you know that Marquez is the first Mexican-born boxer to become a four-division world champion? He won seven world titles in five different boxing weight classes and is considered by some boxing analysts to be among of the greatest Mexican boxers of all time.
